ONLIVE NOT PRESENT AT E3, SOON MORE INFORMATION![]() Posted by Brandon Kramer on May 22, 2009 03:07 (296 days ago) |
The first information about the revolutionary technology called "OnLive" was released at end of March. After this revelation, we didn't heard anything new about this service, but soon there will be information released. Mike McGarvey announced at the OnLive blog that this will not happen on the E3, but the service will still be communicated outside the E3.
McGarvey made the following statement:
“More than anything, E3 is a retail-oriented conference, both for retail platforms and retail publishers, and OnLive is neither. You’ll hear and see plenty from us this year in the run up to our external Beta and launch, delivered directly to your home through your broadband connection.”
Via OnLive it is theoretically possible to play high-end games on your TV or any PC, without you having to have powerful hardware. OnLive is further described as a cloud computing service, in which you play it on a OnLive server through your TV or PC. They make use of a special OnLive controller and a small setup box.
In what resolution you will play depends on your internet connection. A 1.5 Mbps connection is required for SD (standard definition) and a 5 Mbps connection for a maximum resolution, 720p HD. With this service you only need a good internet connection and an output device on your TV or PC. This would in theory means we can play Crysis on Max graphics on a netbook. And added to that, OnLive has several major companies committed, including Ubisoft, Epic, Take-Two, Electronic Arts, THQ, Codemasters, Eidos, Atari and Warner Bros..
