#10 ~ Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots

What a way to start of a top 10 list, eh? The mighty Metal Gear Solid 4. This game has it all. Superb stealth mechanics, great weapons, a gripping story and one of the best casts in recent history. With the genius mind of Hideo Kojima, all these elements blend together and make a fantastic all-round game which is sure to please any gamer.

#9 ~ Assassin's Creed II

I didn't think I would like Assassin's Creed II as much as I did. I wasn't a big fan of the first game so I didn't know what to think... Needless to say, I was impressed at how much Assassin's Creed 2 had improved. The main complaint from the first game is that it's very, very repetitive. This is completely fixed now. Missions provide a wider range of variety and are much more dynamic. There is a greater variety of weapons ranging from your hidden blade... to a gun! If you didn't like Assassin's Creed 1 you should still definitely give this a try.

#8 ~ Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

The biggest surprise of the year for me! This game is FAN-TAS-TIC! ...And that's coming from someone who had never played a Ninja Gaiden game before. The combat is so satisfying and gruesome... it's just a joy to play. It beats the likes of God of War and Devil May Cry by far. One of the selling points for me is definitely the boss battles. You go up against massive bosses and they're all incredible to fight against!  If you're a hack and slash fan and you haven't played this game... go out and buy it now.

#7 ~ Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV might have taken a little too much bashing from fans. They complained how it isn't anything like the past iterations, and how San Andreas is the best in the series. I disagree. Firstly, the story-line is much better than any of the past Grand Theft Auto games. Gameplay is also the best in the series with an updated ragdoll physics engine which is a lot of fun to play around with. The characters are also much more likeable. And now that it's released on PC there is a whole array of things you can do.

#6 ~ Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2 is one of the bloodiest, goriest and most brutal game I've ever played. But that doesn't make the game. Oh no, there's a lot more in Gears than just gory fun. The gameplay is deep, there's a ton of guns to play around with, big boss battles and massive set pieces that make this a must play for shooter fans... Anyone that owns an XBOX 360 should play this, really!

I dont mean to criticize this article,it is well written...but it seems a bit biased toward the ps3. The 10th,5th,3d,and first are all PS3 Exclusive, and while i know this site is based mostly on console gamer, wheres the love for pc games here...wheres the portal, the the TF2,the fallout 3,etc. And all of those games i just listed are on other systems aswell. Also this article really is shooter baed aswell. But i still respect your opinion,I just have a different one. My game of the generation is either portal or Fallout 3 with mods ofcourse.   -Brandon Kilmister
